Just a few moments ago, I had a somewhat respectable idea for a new web startup, I stuck this out to Twitter a few seconds later, went to grab a drink and then checked the status of the domain I’d call the primary choice for the service I was going to create.
Off to a registrar I went, a few keypresses later and I was waiting a mere second or so for the fate of the startup to be determined. Of course, the domain was taken. Odd, I thought, so I went to visit the site… Below is what I found, with a few obvious edits.

Ugh :/ That was the 'Web 2.0' spelling too.
Sure, the domain ‘owner’ could be using it for email, but in my opinion, you really wouldn’t use that domain for email, sure, it’s memorable, but more so than name.here@gmail.com?
So, with that in mind I went and took a peep at the WHOIS for the ’site’, expiration is May 31st next year, not that far into the future, but far enough that I’ll more than likely have a better idea before then anyway.
This is most certainly not my first encounter with domain squatting fagnaughts, and I doubt it’ll be my last, but what can we do about it? Well, not much I guess, but what really annoys me in this case is that the ‘correct’ spelling is a redirect itself to a broadband company. This puts them on the top of the suspect list, but if they did own it, why wouldn’t they have it on a redirect like the other domain? Well, they could be in it for the cash, because, obviously, lots of people leave e’s out of popular words either by mistake or delibrately.
However, I prefer my first conclusion, the domain belongs to a basement dwelling individual who used his/her parents money to buy the domains they squat on and is using any money they provide to pay for their heavy addiction to a certain MMO and food.
